Welcome to Prospect Farm. We are Chip and Paulette Duncan, fifth-generation custodians of this special piece of Central Otago land, and we'd love to share it with you.
Our farm has been in the family since 1874, when my great-great-grandfather James Duncan first settled here at the foot of the Blackstone Hills. Five generations on, we still run sheep and cattle across these tussock-covered hills, and we still take an outsized pride in caring for the land, the animals, and the people who pass through.
Prospect Cabin and Hopehill Farmhouse came about because we wanted to share this place — the quiet, the night sky, the seasonal rhythm of a working farm — with travellers who are looking for something more than another night somewhere.
Paulette grows cut flowers in the garden behind the old grain shed, and runs Prospect Flowers — a small floral studio supplying weddings, events, and weekend bouquets across Central Otago.
Whether you stay for a night, a week, or just stop in for a chat at the gate, we're glad you're here.

We farm regeneratively, plant natives along Dunstan Creek, and try to leave each paddock better than we found it.
No keys in lock-boxes. We meet you at the gate, point out the swimming hole, and leave you alone unless you want company.
It's a working farm. There will be tractors and the occasional escaped sheep. We think that's the good part.
